About Introduction to Drama

Introduction to drama introduces young actors ages 8 to 16 to a variety of dramatic mediums including drama games, improvisation, story creation, and short scene work. In this fun and empowering class, both new and experienced actors can build their confidence, learn to think on their feet and explore the wonderful world of the stage! This is also a great chance for young actors to explore their dramatic skills before committing to our larger play performance class.

Every weekly session includes warm ups, games and exercises designed to stretch every performer’s comfort zone, in a supportive environment. The program concludes with a final showcase for family and friends, where actors can display their new skills. Class fees cover all expenses.

Some reasons to choose our introduction to drama program over other, similar programs are:

• A wide-ranging focus on different types of drama allows young actors to explore their interests and gain a wide variety of skills

• Instructors are masters at not only teaching theatrical skills but also nurturing the gifts within each performer

• The inclusion of improv teaches participants to be able to think on their feet and respond in the moment and scripted work taps into understanding of story and exploration of characters - skills that are useful both on and off the stage

• Time is set aside in each class for purposeful positive recognition of each performer by both the instructor and their fellow participants

This program runs Monday evenings from 5:15 to 6:45 pm. Each program session costs $250 and includes nine classes.
